Briarstone Hall in real LEGO parts: a Gothic Revival house of tan stone, its steep gables edged in gray under slate roofs with iron cresting along the top, white quoins and arched windows in pairs, a long arched verandah to the left, a carriage arch to the right, ivy on the corner and a pale boulder on the lawn. Behind it, a summer afternoon about 1890: tea on the terrace, a rose arbor, a lily pond with its footbridge, a tree swing, a game of croquet, the glasshouse and the vegetable beds. Inside, the verandah as a garden room among palms, the drawing room with its piano, the library, the dining room laid for dinner and the kitchen; upstairs the nursery and the schoolroom; and under the great gable, an artist's studio.
